Xitt Kodi
Goa's staple food is "Xitt Kodi" that generally means steamed rice and curry. Goan fish curry is the famous dish and staple diet of every goan. Goan fish curry is made up of coconut milk and various spices. Raw mango, hog plum, drum sticks, lady finger, reddish (any one) with fish (any of your choice) are added to enhance the taste and served with steamed rice basically white or brown.
Prawns curry with hog plum
Ingredients:
1/2 cup prawns
1 and 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
6 dry red chilies
6 green chilies
4 hog plum
1 onion
1/2 inch tamarind
1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Recipe:
1. Peel the skin of the hog plums
2. Chop the onion
3. Grind the desiccated coconut, chilies, turmeric powder, tamarind
4. Take an utensil, add 1/2 cup water, prawns, onion hog plum and keep it on the flame
5. Once the prawns and hog plums have been cooked add the mixture, salt, water if needed and cook for a while
6. Serve the curry with steamed rice
Mackerel curry:
Ingredients:
2 mackerels
1 and 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
7 dry red chilies
2 green chilies
turmeric powder
5 kokum
10 szechwan pepper
Coconut oil
Salt to taste
Recipe:
1. Clean the mackerels, cut them into pieces apply salt and keep aside
2. Grind desiccated coconut, dry chilies, turmeric
3. Take an utensil add water and green chilies let it cook for a minute on a medium flame then add the mixture
4. Now add salt, kokum, szechwan peppers and mackerels, allow it to cook for while then turn off the flame
5. Add 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil on the top
6. Curry is ready to be served
